Emmy Awards 2015: Nomination List Announced, 'Game of Thrones' Leads With 24 Nods

"Game of Thrones" and HBO dominated this year's list of Emmy nominations. But there were also some surprising changes, with shows and actors' names emerging on the list for the first time, CBS News reports.

According the official nominees list released by the Emmys website, the fantasy epic series led the honors in the drama series category with 24 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting acting nominations for Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke. Directors David Nutter and Jeremy Podeswa were nominated for the directing category for the episodes "Mother's Mercy" and "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken" respectively. Writers for "Game of Thrones," David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, were also nominated in their category, while Diana Rigg received an Outstanding Guest Actress nomination.

"It's amazing and so deserved. It makes me so incredibly proud because there's so much hard work that goes into this show, the amount of effort and love that people put into it. And when I say people, I mean thousands of people working on this show," said Clarke upon learning of the nominations, according to L.A. Times.

Meanwhile, sixth-time Outstanding Comedy series winner "Modern Family" is on the list again this year, but newcomers like "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," "Transparent" and "Parks and Recreation" are giving the race a good run. The latter show aired their final season last spring and will no longer be in the race next year.

"Amy's in London doing press for Inside Out, but we've been texting back and forth. I've heard from Nick Offerman and a lot of the producers and Adam Scott. It was a real flurry of, "Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God," said Mike Schur, "Parks and Recreation's" showrunner about the nomination surprise, according to TV Line.

The big news for the Emmy's, however, is in the number of new names in the acting categories such as Tatiana Maslany of "Orphan Black," Taraji P. Henson of "Empire," Viola Davis of "How To Get Away With Murder, Will Forte of "The Last Man on Earth" and Anthony Anderson of "Black-ish."

"It’s super nice, and it feels like a nice thing for the show to get that kind of recognition, and for the fans — they’ve been so supportive and protective of us; it feels like a communal thing," said fan favorite Maslany of her nomination, according to Variety.

The nominations were announced by Uzo Aduba of "Orange is the New Black" and Cat Deeley of "So You Think You Can Dance" while the actual ceremonies will be hosted by Andy Samberg of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" on September 20.
