The Flash Season 3 Episode 5 Battles Monsters Inside and Out; Spills Secret Identities

Conflicts arise in Season 3 "The Flash" Monster episode as Team Flash battle a beast in the Central City and some characters reveal something about themselves.

In this new episode, the city is under attack by a giant kaiju monster. It turned out to be a hologram projected by an angry 15-year old coder who just wanted to feel powerful for a change.

The reason behind the villainous boy's attempt was he wanted to scare people off. He was tired of being bullied at school for his nerdiness.

The coder who created the monster was almost shot and killed by Julian, who was saved by The Flash in nearly planting a bullet to the teen. Julian then confided to Barry his reasons for hating the metas and his feeling powerless, scared, and inferior chasing after meta-humans as well.

Sharing the spotlight of the show was Caitlin's manifestation of her frosty power. She sought the help of her mom, Dr. Carla Tannhauser (played by Susan Walters of "The Vampire Diaries" and "Teen Wolf"). But her mother was rather cold with her because of their issue dating back to Caitlin's unhappy childhood experiences.

In the end, with her powers surfacing, it only brings her closer to becoming Killer Frost. As her mother warned her, the more she uses her icy powers, the more it will only make it harder to reverse.

In another twist of events, H.R.'s identity as a scientist was revealed to be a fraud. He exposed both to Barry and Cisco that he was a science-romance novelist moonlighting on Earth-19, working on finding his next great story. Team Flash still decided to still keep him in the crew though.

Although the season's 5th episode may not offer action packed scenes or a spectacular villain, "The Flash" Monster epsiode still provided a good storyline for character development for Harrison Wells, Caitlin's Killer Frost, and the building bond between Barry and Julian.
