Julie Plec told Entertainment Tonight that Nina Dobrev will essentially appear sporadically throughout the season while Ian Somerhalder sees Damon Savatore continue under the spell of Sybil (Nathalie Kelly).

As it is "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 will have Damon Salvatore grappling with memories of Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert. However, these memories are tainted as Sybil replaced Elena Gilbert with herself in the mind of Damon Salvatore in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 Episode 2.

This build up to the reunion between Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev is an important element in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. According to Julie Plec, "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 will continue to tease scenes of Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder from past seasons.

These small reminders of Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder are neither unimportant nor immaterial for what "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 will wrap with. However, perhaps Ian Somerhalder is not as excited to see Nina Dobrev bring Elena Gilbert back together with Damon Salvatore.

Does Ian Somerhalder perhaps have other reasons for not wishing to be reunited with Nina Dobrev other than a noble intent for Elena Gilbert where Damon Salvatore is concerned? After all, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev has had the chance to spend a huge time apart when Elena Gilbert exited "The Vampire Diaries" in a coma.

Certainly, having to reunite with the one who got away (Nina Dobrev) at a pivotal moment in one's career (the end of "The Vampire Diaries") may be a bit too intense for Ian Somerhalder.  Whatever the mechanics may be behind the scenes, "The Vampire Diaries" fans can rely on Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev to give solid performances in the Season 8 finale.
