'Samsung Galaxy Note 5' Edge Release Date & News: August Launch Details Leaked! New Specs Will Trump iPhone 6S Plus? [Rumors]

If new reports surrounding the "Samsung Galaxy Note 5" are accurate, we may be seeing the newest Samsung Phablet in less than a month.

Industry sources have allegedly revealed that the South Korea tech giant is planning to release its next-gen Note device mid-August. BGR has just reported that Business Korea insiders have spilled that Samsung will be hosting an event on August 13 in New York which will unveil two new oversized phones, namely the Note 5 along with the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.

Should the tip hold true, this will be a departure from Samsung's typical September announcement held during the annual Germany-based IFA trade show. It was explained that the variation from it's usual timetable of release is in anticipation of Apple's upcoming phone, the iPhone 6S and its companion, the iPhone 6S Plus.

With a mid-August launch, the device are pegged to be available to the public nine days later allowing the Asian brand to get a head start on sales before the release of the always-popular iPhone devices.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Features & Specs

The Note 5 is set to be the best of all Samsung's phablet releases and specs listed by KnowYourMobile indicates that  there are five standout features users will surely enjoy.

  • Premium Design - Samsung has moved on from its plastic exterior and moved on to more luxurious metal casing. This time around the new device is expected to be "thinner, lighter" with the use of the 14 nanometer Exynos octa-core processor.
  • Display - Recent reports speculate that the Note 5 will have a 5.7-inch super AMOLED display with a 2560 x 1440 QHD resolution.
  • Processor - Samsung's Galaxy S6 success without a Qualcomm chipset may mean we could see the same Exynos technology in the new Note 5. Sources reveal a boosted chip, namely the upgraded Exynos 7422 could be loaded onto the phablets.
  • Productivity & Multitasking - Samsung, who is now working with Wacom, may be working on producing a "sensitive, accurate, and flexible stylus experience" that hasn't been offered before.
  • Battery Life - One of the major concerns in smartphone technology is packing more juice in a slimmer case. With Samsung's Ultra Power Saving mode, the Exynos 7420 could be the key in unlocking one of the best battery performers in the industry.

GSM Arena wrote in a related report that one key feature that will be added to both the new Note device as well as the brand's first "Plus" item, the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, is the expandable storage via microSD slot that supports microSDXC cards expandable to 128GB.

The iPhone 6S and 6S Plus is Samsung's biggest rival this 2015. Apple is expected to introduce a new smartphone that will come with Force Touch, larger memory, the iOS 9 and a new processor, possibly the A9. It's believed the two variants will carry the same display size, 4.7 and 5.5-inches, respectively. Any changes in height and thickness will be very minor.

Stay tuned for more.
