Mutsy's Evo Stroller Poses Strangulation Risks to Infants: CPSC

Authorities at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) have recalled a popular brand of strollers in the United States, citing strangulation risks posed by the product to infants.

According to CPSC, Mutsy's Evo strollers are not fully safe for small babies, and the children can easily slide down through the opening between the grab bar and seat bottom of the stroller. This can put the infants at a higher risk of entrapment and strangulation.

Nearly 350 units of the EVO strollers, manufactured by Mutsy BV, of Netherlands in China and imported by Mutsy USA in New Jersey are affected by the recall notice issued by the Commission Thursday, Feb. 7.

All strollers that were manufactured between February and November 2012 with the model numbers MT 12 -03,11,14,31,34,37,39,42,43 and 43 have been included in the recall. Information about the model number and date of manufacturing can be learned from a sticker below the stroller seat.

The recalled stroller that comes in different colors - brown, black, navy blue and white - costing $400 were available to purchase at all juvenile product stores across the country and online shops of Amazon, between April and December 2012.

Though the authorities are yet to receive any complaints regarding the product, they urged parents to discontinue using the recalled stroller. Parents can approach the company Mutsy USA to get a free replacement seat unit and grab bar.

Consumers can dial toll-free number (877) 546-9230, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays, to get help from Mutsy USA.

To avoid the risks associated with the product, CPSC also requested consumers to file their comments and suggestions on SaferProducts.gov.
