MTV's ‘Scream’ Season 3 Updates: Slasher Horror Hints Cancelation, Episodes Down From 13 To 6?

'Scream,' MTV's hit horror series adaptation of the successful movie franchise by the same title is set to premiere its Season 3 this 2017. However, talks of cancellation abound, especially since the announced number of episodes is down from 12 to six.

"Scream" Season 1 had 10 episodes and its successful pilot episode garnered 21 million viewers, Premiere Date noted. Meanwhile, Season 2 got even more episodes with 13. However, despite its fan base, the thriller has seen a decline in the ratings game over the course of Season 2, despite its hit Halloween special.

For now, "Scream" fans can rejoice that MTV has decided to give it another season. Season 3 might pick up right where the Halloween special episode from Season 2 has left off. More often than not, shows, especially nearing to the finale of the story do tend to decline over the years. Hopefully, this will not influence a natural viewer fatigue for "Scream" Season 3.

However, as what Deadline reported, numbers are still not great numbers for the scripted drama, especially one that airs on a major cable network. Ratings, of course, is a potential factor for the longevity of the next season and the network is taking a consequential gamble continuing the production despite the low viewership. Reportedly, "Scream" Season 2 only managed to get an average of 377,000 viewers, which was way less as compared to Season 1.

MTV is yet to make an official announcement regarding the actual air date for "Scream" Season 3. The cable network also did not confirm as to whether this will be the final installment of the show.

Are you excited for the comeback of "Scream?" What do you think of MTV's decision to cut it down to six episodes? Sound off your thoughts below and stay tuned as we wait for more updates.
