'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Latest News: Zendaya's Reaction To Racial Comments About A Black Mary Jane

Just when fans thought that "Spider-Man: Homecoming" actress Zendaya will play as Mary Jane, she came out to clarify that her "Spider-Man: Homecoming" character is not the romantic type. The Disney star did not further disclose details except her character is named Michelle.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Zendaya said that her character in "Spider-Man: Homecoming" is "not romantic." She then shared how she reacted to what "Spider-Man: Homecoming" fans have been saying about her role, especially when they thought that she is Mary Jane.

"My character is like very dry, awkward, intellectual, and because she's so smart, she just feels like she doesn't need to talk to people, like, 'My brain is so far ahead of you that you're just not really on my level.' So she comes off very weird," the "Spider-Man: Homecoming" cast member said.

The "Spider-Man: Homecoming" cast member added that her character has a deep nature and is somewhat an intellectual being. Her statement has just debunked the rumors that Zendaya's character is Mary Jane, who is the love interest of Peter Parker in "Spider-Man: Homecoming." In fact, fans assumed that she will portray the superhero's romantic partner in the "Spider-Man: Homecoming," gathering different views from the audience.

Some "Spider-Man: Homecoming" fans are thrilled with her rumored role while others reacted negatively due to her African-American race. Apparently, some "Spider-Man: Homecoming" fans are not comfortable with the idea that Mary Jane will be black, when in the comic books, Mary Jane is white.

"People are going to react over anything. But nothing [about who I'm playing] is fact. It's funny to watch the guessing game. But of course there's going to be outrage over that because for some reason some people just aren't ready," the "Spider-Man: Homecoming" actress added.

Zendaya took it with great understanding and said that some people in America are simply "not ready." She then goes on saying that she walks in the streets of New York seeing diversities in races, reflecting it as a beautiful, real world that people just need to "get over it."

Zendaya will join Tom Holland in the "Spider-Man: Homecoming" with the latter accepting the role as the legendary Spiderman. The actress even shared some words of wisdom to Holland, particularly about becoming famous.

"Spider-Man: Homecoming" is scheduled to hit theaters on July 7, 2017. What do you think is the significant role of Michelle in "Spider-Man: Homecoming." Tell us your thoughts below.
