Digital Age Parenting: Should Parents Be Banned From Social Media

Whether people like to acknowledge it or not, oversharing on social media has become an alarming issue today. And this practice is common among proud parents who nonchalantly post document their children's entire childhood and share on public platforms.

According to a survey by domain name Nominet in England, a parent on average posted about 1498 pictures of their child by the time they turn five years old. Now, whether anybody agrees or not, that number is quite a lot and it is an excessive amount of work for anyone.

Even though it's understandable that the parents do that out of affection and love, children are too young to have a choice or say in that matter that makes them possibly vulnerable. The main reservation is that the first batch of kids to have their picture posted online, who are adults, are not happy about it. They are not very secure with their entire formative process documented and trapped in digital weapons.

According to BBC, the kids who were once younger and liked being publically posted because of all the attention they needed back then, also look back now and do not feel happy about it. All of them now end up detagging themselves from those old pictures because they feel that they are embarrassing and they do not want anyone else to see them.

Although they say that it is not something that they don't like, it is something they do not prefer others to see. A lot has changed physically and on the emotional ground, those old pictures are not a true depiction of their present self.

It is not, however, the case with everyone. Few people do like and enjoy this. They say it is an amazing way of connecting with your friends and family who are scattered in different parts of the world. It gives them a feeling of togetherness and connections despite being miles away. Looking at those old pictures is very heartwarming and affectionate for them.
