‘The Crown’ Season 2 Renewal, Release Date, & Updates: Season 2 Confirmed! Claire Foy and Matt Smith Begin Rehearsals for Royal Drama

The intriguing Netflix royal drama, " The Crown," will be returning for another season. "The Crown" Season 2 is reportedly in pre-production and the lead stars Claire Foy (Queen Elizabeth II) and Matt Smith (Prince Philip) are already rehearsing for their individual roles.

RadioTimes  confirmed that streaming provider Netflix has ordered "The Crown" Season 2 after the runaway success of the pilot season. "The Crown" Season 2 will continue to document the life of young Queen Elizabeth II for a few more decades. It will also introduce a few more familiar names from British royalty.

While reports confirmed that Foy and Smith will be back for "The Crown" Season 2, it has not been ascertained if all of the characters from the pilot will also be returning. The lead characters, though, are up for another 8-month shoot to film at least ten episodes for "The Crown" Season 2.

"The Crown" is a period piece focuses on the life of Queen Elizabeth II and touches on the conflicts within and outside royal life. It also gives viewers a glimpse of other well-known characters in history such as British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, King George, Queen Mary and Princess Margaret. "The Crown" also introduced Prince Charles and Princess Anne as children. The series is said to be historically accurate and great care was taken for the series to remain tasteful and elegant.

"The Crown" Season 2 will still be written by Peter Morgan and produced by Andrew Eaton. While there is no official release date, reports say it will most probably be by November next year.

While Claire Foy is the obvious star of the series, it cannot be denied that a significant number of "The Crown" are fans of Matt Smith. Smith is one of the most-loved actors who played Doctor Who. He was the 11th doctor in the highly successful British series.
