Steve Martin Welcomes First Child at 67

Steve Martin is a dad at 67. The actor and his wife Anne Stringfield welcomed their first child in December, The New York Post reported.

Not interested in publicizing his personal life, the actor had kept the news under wrap, until the media spotted him with his newborn near his LA home recently.

"They've had a baby, and how they kept it a secret nobody knows," a source told New York Post. "Steve's very private. They are thrilled. They worked hard to have the baby."

Later, the new dad's rep confirmed the news to Us Weekly.

"We can confirm that Steve Martin and his wife are new parents and recently welcomed a child," the rep told Us Weekly.

Martin, who started participating in comedy programs after completing his high school education, was in a relationship with writer and former staffer for The New Yorker magazine, Stringfield for three years before tying the knot in July 2007.

Though he is becoming a father for the first time, the actor has appeared as a responsible father in many movies, including "Father of the Bride", "Parenthood", "A Simple Twist of Fate", "Cheaper by the Dozen", and "Bringing Down the House".

"I played fathers so many times, it's like being one," Martin told IGN Asia Pacific in December 2003. "I've had children of every age. And like I say, I get to do everything but the dirty work. Their parents have to take them home and deal with all that."
