Google Pixel Phone Tech Update 2016: Huawei Declines The Manufacturing Of Google Pixel, Learn Why!

Google Pixel phones are the first phones manufactured by Google without the direct involvement of the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) partner. Recently, Google asked Huawei to manufacture the Google Pixel phones but Huawei refused.

Google has been in partnership with Huawei since then, in fact, Huawei was the one who designed and manufactured Nexus 6P. The Nexus 6P bears Huawei's brand on it and is on top of the line among fan's favorite list. According to Forbes, Google's Nexus 6P brand is dead leaving us wondering why the search giant and the manufacturer stopped their deal.

The Nexus phone always features the maker's brand and was allowed to be sold through sales channels outside. According to the German website WinFuture, Colin Giles who is the Vice President of Huawei's Consumer Business Group shed some light on why they did not take the deal. Huawei wanted to have involvement on the Google Pixel's deal.

Google Pixel is manufactured without the OEM's involvement which is totally different. Google now handles all the sales and there is no branding other than Google's brand on the phone which is what Huawei did not like about the offer.

Another possible reason why Huawei refused to manufacture Google Pixel is that Google failed to land Nexus 6P to all major carriers including in America including Verizon, At&t, Sprint and T-Mobile according to postings on the AndroidGuys website. However, this expectation did not come to a realization.

In reality, HTC was not the first choice of Google for making the Pixel phone. With Huawei out HTC grabbed the chance to manufacture Google Pixel and Pixel XL due to several years of disappointing sales. We will not be able to see any HTC brandings on the phone except for the non-removable battery.

Despite the fact that Huawei refused to manufacture Pixel, Google and Huawei still have plans in working together in the future. They are scheduled to debut a new phone next year.

It is interesting to know that Huawei is rumored to provide the launch platform for Google's new Andromeda system. Andromeda is an initiative of Google that unifies chrome and android. If rumors are correct, we are going to see the OS make an appearance on an upcoming Huawei 7-inch tablet.
