NFL Latest News: Detroit Lions DeAndre Levy Proud of Breaking Former Penn State Coach Joe Paterno’s Leg; Proudest Moment of His Life

The Detroit Lions DeAndre Levy, linebacker and activist, was involved in a game where former Penn State coach Joe Paterno's leg was broken during a game in 2006. In a recent story in Men's Journal, Levy said that it was his "proudest moment in college."

Former Penn State coach Joe Paterno was for reportedly aware of sexual abuse allegations against Jerry Sandusky, Paterno's former defensive coordinator, as reported by ESPN. According to Detroit Free Press, Paterno was fired from Penn State in 2011 due to a scandal of child sexual abuse involving one of his former assistants, Jerry Sandusky.

In court filings, former Penn State coach Joe Paterno has been accused of failing to report Jerry Sandusky's actions as far back as in the 1970s. Sandusky was also convicted of over 45 counts of sexual abuse and is serving 30 to 60 years in a Pennsylvania prison.

Detroit Lions DeAndre Levy pointed out that people should stop prioritizing sports over humanity. "Just because somebody can throw a football or coach football, they're excluded from their wicked acts."

However, Yahoo Sports News reported that Detroit Lions Jim Caldwell who also coached under Paterno from 1986 to 1992 said that he disagreed with Detroit Lions DeAndre Levy's characterization of Paterno. But Caldwell supported his player's right to speak out on the matter.

Detroit Lions Jim Caldwell told the media that he had gone on the former Penn State coach Paterno's records many times and he still felt proud about Joe.

Detroit Lions DeAndre Levy had returned to practice Wednesday for the first time since injuring his knee in a victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Levy had played in parts of just two games over the past two seasons but was one of the best linebackers in the NFL since 2013.

Detroit Lions DeAndre Levy had already missed most of the 2015 season with a hip injury that required surgery and had made him intimately involved more in several social issues. In 2015, Levy had sold off his sneaker collection to benefit Detroit's homeless, and in the following year, Levy had raised money to help Regenerate Detroit.
