‘Westworld’ Season 1, Episode 8 Spoilers, Promo & Theories: Arnold Hidden In One Of The Hosts? Gripping Finale Teased

Arnold is the only character in HBO's "Westworld" without a face but whose presence lingers on strongly. He's been dead for quite some time now but some of the hosts are still reacting to him and listen to his commands.

There are speculations that Arnold is still alive in some capacity on "Westworld" -- but how? Collider theorized that Arnold transferred his consciousness into one of the hosts when he was still alive. Those robots in question are Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood), Teddy (James Marsden), and Bernard (Jeffrey Wright).

Let's start with Dolores. There was a scene on "Westworld" where the host was telling Arnold (or probably herself) that the park's administrators don't suspect her of lying. Arnold once asked Dolores to help him destroy Westworld and she appears to be leading the host revolution. Arnold probably felt that Dolores is the perfect receptacle for his consciousness.

Another theory puts Bernard as Arnold's host version. Both of them are interested and fascinated on how the hosts' minds work and they don't think that the robots are merely machines. Like Arnold, Bernard was motivated by a personal tragedy -- the death of his son.

Teddy could also be Arnold. Like Arnold and Ford (Anthony Hopkins), Teddy and Wyatt (Sorin Brouwers) were partners-in-crime in the past who had a falling out when one of them discovered the other's wickedness.

Another theory suggests that the Man in Black (Ed Harris) is Arnold, whose real name is still being kept in the dark. The man appears to be knowledgeable about the hosts, too, though this could be the result of him attending Westworld for 30 years.

However, this theory is made unlikely by how the man treats the hosts. Arnold has a great sympathy for his creations, which is unlike how the Man in Black treats them violently.

"Westworld" director Fred Toye said that Arnold and Ford's past relationship is "fundamental in the undercurrent of the story," THR reported. It remains to be seen if Arnold is indeed alive in some way through a host.

"Westworld" was unsurprisingly renewed for Season 2 recently, which is expected to air in 2018. Jimmi Simpson, who portrays William, told TVLine that the gripping "Westworld" Season 1 finale is not a cliffhanger.

"Westworld's" eighth episode titled "Trace Decay" airs on Sunday, Nov. 20. In the episode, Bernard grapples with a mandate, dark memories haunt Teddy, and Maeve (Thandie Newton) plans to change her script. Watch the promo and check out photos from the episode below.
