Humans Only Have 1000 Years Left To Live On Earth; Is Now The Best Time To Colonize Other Planets?

Stephen Hawking believes that people on Earth should start spreading out to space and build colonies immediately to save humanity. Hawking suggested that Earth will be facing existential threats in the next 1,000 years which might end the human race.

"Although the chance of a disaster to planet Earth in a given year may be quite low, it adds up over time, and becomes a near certainty in the next 1,000 or 10,000 years," Hawking explained in a report from Christian Science Monitor. The professor continued to say that people should already be spread out into space and into the stars by that time in order to save the human race in case a disaster hits Earth.

Staying on Earth longer, as Hawking believes, increases the risk of mass extinction. He made clear that humans will be facing serious threats such as climate change, nuclear holocaust, terrorism and the rise of artificial intelligence in the coming years.

The renowned theoretical physicist also proposed that the solution to avoid extinction is to colonize other planets. He believes that mankind must pursue exploring space for the future of human race. "I don't think we will survive another 1,000 years without escaping beyond our fragile planet," Hawking argued according to a report from Express.

Though Hawking's proposition seems gloomy, colonizing other planets such as Mars seems possible given the advanced technology of today. It can be recalled that SpaceX CEO Elon Musk already made it his goal to colonize the Red Planet one day.

Musk has even started building a SpaceX rocket that he will use to transport humans to Mars. The SpaceX CEO plans to send humans to the Red Planet in 2025 once his billion dollar rocket has been completed.
