‘Avatar 2’ Movie News & Updates: Release Date, Cast Almost Complete; 5 Movies Confirmed for the Series?

Finally, the "Avatar 2" movie is a go, and the cast is almost complete. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Sigourney Weaver have signed up to reprise their roles. Although Sigourney Weaver's character died in the original avatar, the character will be revived and will be a Na'vi.

The "Avatar 2" movie plot remains that Jake, Sam Worthington's character, and his wife Neytiri played by Zoe Saldana will still be fighting humans who have come back to mine the planet's natural resources, specifically the no-gravity mineral which can only be found on the planet. Stephen Lang, who plays the movie's villain, will also return for the movie.

Assuming that the "Avatar 2" movie can start principal photography in early 2017, fans will have to wait for at least 2020, before the film gets to theaters. An MTV timeline shows that the original "Avatar" took more than three years from the start of principal photography to the day it was released in theaters.

In the meantime, according to a report, James Cameron is hoping that his movies will be shown on 3D without the use of any glasses. It should be noted that this is already possible with Nintendo 3DS games. It is not clear when this technology will be widely available for cinemas.

Cinemablend reported that contrary to earlier reports, there will be five movies in the saga, instead of just three. Cameron has said that there is enough material to make four more movies.

The hype for the "Avatar 2" movie started a while back, even as principal photography was supposed to have started in 2013. However, in staying true to form, Cameron has pushed back the start of work until he is satisfied that the technology exists for his vision of the movie.

"Avatar" is the highest grossing movie ever. It raked in more than $2.7 billion in the box office when it was released in December 2007. "Avatar 2" movie is expected to do the same, if not better, once it is released.
