NBA Trade Rumors: Cleveland Cavaliers Eyeing Dallas Mavericks' Deron Williams, Orlando Magic's D.J. Augustin To Backup Kyrie Irving

The Cleveland Cavaliers may be the reigning NBA champs, but this doesn't mean that they can't add new faces on their roster. A number of rumors are suggesting that the Cavs are looking for a suitable point guard to backup All-Star Kyrie Irving, especially now that cornerstones were moved.

Cleveland.com, as reported by The Inquisitr, said that the Cavaliers are eyeing Dallas Mavericks' PG Deron Williams and DJ Augustin of the Orlando Magic as suitable names to backup Uncle Drew as the second playmaker. Williams, a former All-Star is averaging 12.5 points and 4.8 assists per game. Although it is a far cry from his career-best 16.7 points and 8.2 assists, he can still put up good numbers and leadership on the floor.

Augustin meanwhile is a scrappy point guard who in the last 10 games has averaged close to 10 points and 3 assists per outing. Although Cleveland still has J.R. Smith, Iman Shumpert and LeBron James to relieve Irving for the 1 spot, Williams and Augustin are still prime contenders so as to not let the current Cavs roster mix their positions.

Another name that's been roaming around is Norris Cole. Cole was a teammate of LeBron James during his time with the Miami Heat, but as far as immediate trading is concerned, Cole is not on the top list considering that he is now with the Shandong Golden Stars. it is also worth noting that Cleveland, according to International Business Times, "are already $35million above the salary cap", and they only have a couple of trade exceptions to consider.

The Cavs could still field Kay Felder to give the management more time to decide. Although the 2016-17 season is still fresh, Cleveland is looking to defend its title. One way to do this is to give Irving a much-needed rest; he can only do so much, and a seasoned backup PG would do wonders for him and the team.
