‘Criminal Minds’ Season 12 Cancellation: Show Likely To Be Renewed Despite Falling Ratings and Thomas Gibson’s Departure? Aisha Tyler Talks About ‘Mirror Image’ Episode

The long-time running TV series "Criminal Minds" has not been performing too well in terms of ratings, which raised speculations that it may be nearing its cancellation. Meanwhile, Aisha Tyler talks about her taking center stage in the recent episode of "Criminal Minds" Season 12.

The cancellation rumors surrounding "Criminal Minds" were intensified after Thomas Gibson was fired. Some fans have threatened to boycott the show, which turned out to be real as apparent in the numbers. Regardless, TV By The Numbers by zap2it.com said that is not enough to endanger the show of getting cancelled after running for 12 years on television.

The publication said that "Criminal Minds" is actually more likely to be renewed this week for Season 13. This is partly due to other shows needing attention from CBS, such as "Pure Genius" and "Code Black," which are also struggling in their performance. Add to that the other shows like "NCIS: New Orleans," "Scorpion" and "Madam Secretary" that are lucky enough to be saved by the Third Season Rule.

Meanwhile, Aisha Tyler's character is the focus of the new "Criminal Minds" Season 12 episode titled "Mirror Image." Dr. Tara Lewis becomes the target victim of the serial killer Mr. Scratch, who kidnapped her brother to get her attention.

"Criminal Minds" Season 12 Episode 7 was a slight departure from the show's usual procedural element, but Aisha Tyler liked how exploring Dr. Tara Lewis past and family history turned out.

"I think it was nice. In a lot of ways it was intense, but at a different pace. It was less procedural, it was less situational, it was more about these people's relationships and I couldn't have a better guy to do that with than with Joe," she told ET.

"Criminal Minds" Season 12 airs every Wednesday at 9 p.m. on CBS.
