‘Gotham’ Season 3 Spoilers: Jerome Is Alive! Here's How He Managed To Return [Theories]

The second half of "Gotham" Season 3 will showcase a shocking return of one of the series' biggest and vilest villains -- Jerome (Cameron Monaghan). The huge reveal didn't exactly provide how he managed to come back from a supposed death, but there are theories on how he managed to do just that.

Jerome was killed by Theo Galavan (James Frain) in Season 2 of "Gotham." His grandest legacy on "Gotham" involved inspiring a group of baddies to be potential Jokers, according to CarterMatt. Jerome was believed to be the "Proto Joker" because of his sinister antics prior to his death.

Unfortunately, "Gotham" fans would have to wait for a whole month to find out how Jerome came back from the dead. One theory speculates that Jerome was a remnant of Hugo Strange's (B.D. Wong) experiments, which is likely given the latter's penchant for working on people with demented psyches. It's possible that Jerome was at Indian Hill the whole time and no one knew.

Another theory claims that the Jerome viewers saw in the new "Gotham" Season 3 promo was actually a pre-recorded video. Jerome could have filmed himself before he died, which explains why he was able to speak to everyone despite his demise.

There are also speculations that Jerome wasn't actually dead though he very much looked like so after what Theo did to him. There's a chance that someone helped him between his bout with Theo and the morgue, and that someone switched out Jerome's still alive body with someone else's dead corpse.

The fourth theory about Jerome's return to "Gotham" was wildly crazy, though not entirely impossible. Some viewers theorized that Jerome has a secret, evil twin and he was the one shown in the episode 12 promo of "Gotham."

It's also possible that Jerome has a copycat who studied him obsessively and went under plastic surgery to look like him. This theory may be far-fetched but it fits the overall tone of "Gotham" quite well.

As for Camren Bicondova's Selina Kyle, the young actress told Entertainment Weekly that the comeback of her character's mother in the fall finale of "Gotham" Season 3 will bring out "a totally different type of vulnerability from her." Selina's darkness will surface due to her toxic relationship with her mother and it will extremely affect her bond with Bruce (David Mazouz).

"Gotham" Season 3 returns to Fox on Monday, Jan. 16. What do you think of Jerome's return? Any theories on how he managed to come back? Let us know below!
