Why Online Gambling Is A Major Threat To Vulnerable Children

IPads, smartphones and computers are in almost every home. Children even as young as an infant have apps designed especially for them. Games, apps, videos and pictures intrigue children to use these gadgets more, however, it is a common misconception for some parents who believe they are saving their children from social evils by keeping them indoors with a mobile phone or a computer.

Unfortunately, children are getting more from the internet than just games and movies, thanks to the popularity of online gambling. According to The Guardian, parents can ask their children to stay away from drugs and cigarettes but they can't seem to stop them from using their computers or other tech gadgets.

A study shows that 23 percent of teenage boys are involved in online gambling, revealing that they are more interested in gambling than doing drugs or alcohol. Staying online provides children the opportunities to take part in activities such as gambling but psychologists suggest that restricting them away from the internet would not keep them from gambling.

Psychologically, children are addicted towards online gambling because it serves as a distraction to them. European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs says that bullying in schools is a factor related to online addictions. Children feel secure engaging in their smartphones or computers and due to this observation, Gamblerss posted the same article to make people aware of the issue.

Child psychiatrists consider the teenage years a confusing one and anything that soothes emotional stress feels like the only solution. Digital addiction has another interesting reason behind, children who are being bullied or have issues in schools create their own scenarios online and feel like winners when they win in gambling.

Meanwhile, the solution to all these kinds of addictions is to make children emotionally stable. Parents must talk to the kids and let them know that problems are a part of life and they will always be. In that way, they won't be looking for a hidden place in the digital world.
