Year 2016 saw the premiere of many TV series, all vying for high viewership and critical acclaim. With so many series competing for the viewers' attention, one needs to be meticulous in choosing the shows that will be worth their precious time. Thankfully the US TV critics are capping off the year with a list of the best TV shows of 2016 and readers are surely curious if favorites such as "Stranger Things," "Mr. Robot," and "Westworld" are part of it.

According to a list published in MetaCritic, some of the TV series most recommended by critics include "Atlanta," "Better Call Saul," "BoJack Horseman," "Stranger Things," and "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend." As it turned out, the ongoing tally in MetaCritic reveals that shows from the FX network dominate the list, with three of its shows occupying the top three spot. Meanwhile, two Netflix series are in the fourth and fifth place, "Stranger Things" and "Bojack Horseman" respectively.


The top three shows from the FX Network are "Atlanta," "The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story," and "The Americans." The sitcom-drama, "Atlanta" which follows the journey of Earn (Donald Glover) and his cousin Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) as they try to make a name in the rap industry is the top TV show of 2016 for critics. A Vulture report said that this series impressively tackles many issues through effective use of unconventional humor and cinematic effects.

Meanwhile, the popular "Stranger Things" from Netflix is tied in the fifth place with Starz series, "The Girlfriend Experience." In the seventh place is CW's "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" together with "Better Call Saul" of AMC. Then "Veep" of HBO, "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee" of TBS and "Rectify" of Sundance completes the critics' choice list.
