‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8 Latest Updates, Spoilers, News: Ian Somerhalder Spoiled Finale? Hinted A ‘No Happy Ending?’

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 finale may have been spoiled by Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon Salvatore. Ian Somerhalder admitted to being in the dark about the involvement of Nina Dobrev (as Elena Gilbert) in the final episode. However, the TVD star suspects no happy ending is coming for Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon Salvatore.

Variety reports that Ian Somerhalder pointed out that Stefan and Damon Salvatore have done far too much to merit a happy ending. Granted Ian Somerhalder qualified that more than a few details are unknown to him. However, "The Vampire Diaries" star recognizes that what will satisfy the audience will not necessarily align with his pro-human stance.

As the media outlet cites Ian Somerhalder maintains his earlier pronouncement that best ending for everyone at Mystic Falls is to see Elena Gilbert awaken from her curse. More importantly, Ian Somerhalder thinks that Elena Gilbert should be freed from any memory of all the horrors that Stefan and Damon Salvatore unleashed in her life and in Mystic Falls.

Ian Somerhalder revealed that he himself does not know how "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 finale will pan out. The TVD star tried to pry details of the season and series finale from EPs Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec but failed. Ian Somerhalder has also yet to receive confirmation on whether or not Nina Dobrev will be back before The CW series retires permanently.

An earlier report by Entertainment Weekly cites Julie Plec in warning that even "Steroline" may be a temporary fix. "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 saw Caroline Forbes (Candice King) and Stefan Salvatore plan their happy-ever-after. Julie Plec hinted that these plans won't go too far. Entertainment Weekly proposes that Cade (Wolé Parks) may have something to do with this.

Indeed a happy ending may be as all-around elusive in Season 8 as Ian Somerhalder predicted. The CW airs "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 Episode 7 on Dec 9. Episode 7 is aptly called "The Next Time I Hurt Somebody, It Could Be You."
