‘A Monster Calls’ Movie Review: A Tree Monster That Makes You Grieve; Heartfelt Story, Brilliant Acting & Outstanding Special Effects

"A Monster Calls" depicts an unfortunate story of a helpless 12-year-old lad Conor (played by Lewis MacDougall) and how a huge Tree Monster (voiced by Liam Neeson) has become his only ally amidst his tribulations. The movie brought out outstanding special effects and greatly touched the hearts of the viewers, gaining high ratings from latest reviews.

Connor found himself in a tragic situation where he will have to take care of his dying mother (played by Felicity Jones), suffering from terminal cancer, as his father (played by Toby Kebbell) has already left them and currently has a new family, living far from them. Aside from being alone with a dying mother, Connor also needs to keep up with a not-so-good grandmother (played by Sigourney Weaver), who seems to be the only source of help for them, which apparently he despises.

Furthermore, "A Monster Calls" deepened the plot by adding another tribulation Connor has to deal with amidst his family's miseries. Unfortunately, Connor also struggles at school as there is one student who constantly bullies him, plus the fact that he has no friends at school too.

In the middle of these miseries, Connor opted to turn to a huge tree, where he used as an avenue for him to talk about his problems and to release his pains. With the boy's huge imagination, he envisions the giant tree to become the great Tree Monster.

According to the review by flickeringmyth, Liam Neeson did a great job in exuding a terrifying voice of the Tree Monster. The Tree Monster prohibits Conor from sharing his own miserable stories and demands that the latter should listen first to the former's three stories. It turns out, the three stories of the Tree Monster have significant implications on Conor's present struggles. Interestingly, the movie "A Monster Call" has delivered an amazing message through this plot, as well as rendering an excellent animation as Conor tries to survive his miseries.

Towards the end of the film, viewers will be amazed by the brilliant acting skills from Connor and his mother. The report guarantees that the last act will make the viewers weep as the scene will greatly touch their hearts.

In another report, "A Monster Calls" has earned 84 percent rating from Rotten Tomatoes. In addition, the movie is now a certified blockbuster hit as it has also surpassed "The Secret Life of Pets," Movie Pilot reported.
