'Bourne 5' 2016 Trailer & News: Plot Details From Matt Damon, Movie Features Questions on Spying, Civil Liberties? [Details]

The announcement of Matt Damon's return to the immensely popular "Bourne" series has got fans excited. Now, the A-list celebrity has revealed new details about what we can expect from the fifth installment of the much-loved franchise.

Damon, 44, is set to return for "Bourne 5" with director Paul Greengrass, both of whom weren't involved in the making of the last film, the 2012 flick "The Bourne Legacy" which starred Jeremy Renner.

In a recent interview with Buzzfeed, Damon shared that recent events have allowed for the return of Jason Bourne. "We always looked at those movies as really about the Bush presidency, and so we kind of had to wait for the world to change," said Damon to BuzzFeed News while speaking about his other film, "The Martian."

Damon has been very vocal about his refusal to continue making Bourne films if he felt the story wasn't there. This is one of the reasons he didn't return for the 2012 movie, which saw the torch of Bourne being passed onto "Mission: Impossible" star Jeremy Renner.

"Without giving too much of it away, it's Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world," added Damon. "It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy." He continued to tease, "And the movie ends in Las Vegas, the most grotesque incarnation of...." but then went on to trail off with a laugh allowing the public's mind to fill the end of that sentence.

"Bourne 5" Cast and Plot Details

The plot and cast news for the while, which begins production this week, has been kept under wraps but it is being reported that other big names linked to the project include franchise star Julia Stiles as well as Tommy Lee Jones and Alicia Vikander.

The Bourne films are part of the spy-action genre and revolve around the titular character Jason Bourne, played by Matt. He's a skilled CIA assassin who is suffering from memory loss and has been hunted by his mother organization with the intent to silence him for good.

The 2012 film, "The Bourne Legacy" was a spin-off that featured Jeremy Renner as the main character playing the role of Aaron Cross.
The untitled "Bourne 5" is set to debut in theaters July 29, 2016. No trailer or set images have been officially released.
