How Single Parenting Affects Physical And Mental Health Of A Dad

A recent health report highlighted the news that a single father was likely to experience physical and emotional stress levels twice as much as the fathers with their other halves. This finding was also linked to single mothers who are believed to experience stress to the same extent as single fathers.

This is largely due to low salary and lack of employment for them. According to Reuters, the reason why this is not common knowledge is because males do not give adequate attention to their health and are less likely than females to approach health services due to the social complications involved.

According to the study, the probability of a lone father reporting that his mental and physical health were poor or fair was twice that of a partnered one. While single mothers usually find it hard to seek employment due to the gender inequality concerning jobs, single fathers deemed it difficult to deal with the stress of raising a child as males are not generally considered responsible for child care and caregiving in our society.

The number of single-father families is largely growing, especially in Canada where they are becoming the most dominant type of family. Yet it is difficult to figure out if single-fatherhood is a result of poor health or a cause of it. To make the findings more reliable, it was suggested to include absent fathers in the studies
as well.

According to Sun News, a possible solution is to create new policies and introduce some changes in the preexisting ones that will encourage single fathers to seek social help and child support services. This does not imply that the facilities and policies created for single mothers are not available for the males but one needs to be cognizant of the fact that males are generally more hesitant to receive social aid.
