Catholic Education: An Important Option In Massachusetts?

The role and significance of Catholic education in Massachusetts regarding history, politics and culture have been undeniable over the past few decades. Tom Birmingham reminisces about his time in a Catholic school and stresses the importance of catholic education and religion's profound role in mainstream pedagogy.

To fulfill one's desire to see poor kids from cities prosper and build their dreams, it is necessary to provide them with a quality education as good as any rich child receives. After all, a high-class education is an equal right of every child across the country.

Due to an institution's repeated attempt and sincere dedication, a set of public school reforms were devised. Owing largely to these reforms, the academic performance of the students in Massachusetts has seen an impressive boost lately with students topping their science and math tests nationwide and even in international competitions, according to the surveys conducted.

As per Birmingham's article on Wicked Local Weston, similar improvements were seen in schools in Boston as the Catholic schools started employing the strategies, techniques, and standards used by the renowned liberal arts schools. Moreover, in the present era, it is highly important to focus on the moral education of students and to impart the knowledge that builds their characters well.

This has also been significantly enhanced due to the influence of these public liberal arts schools. Nevertheless, the population attending such Catholic schools has been decreasing in spite of the successful results. As Metrowest Daily shows that the statistics show that Boston has seen a decrease of almost 49 percent in the catholic educational systems.

In the United States, figures are more alarming with less than half the population going to Catholic schools compared to previous years. Despite that fact, Tom Birmingham, the author of the article, is thankful that he had the opportunity to have a Catholic-school experience, which he can only describe as valuable and morally strong.
