Valve’s First Steam Awards Winners Revealed; Check Out The Details Here!

The first ever Steam Awards finally concluded with 10 games taking home honors in 12 categories. For almost a month of voting from Seam fans, Valve released the winners' list last Dec. 31, 2016, at 1 p.m. PT or 4 p.m. ET.

The Steam Awards is not your average awards ceremony. The games or nominees are voted by Steam users. For users to participate and vote for Valve's first ever awards event, they received a Steam Awards Trading Card. Initially, Valve opened the awards event with only 8 categories. But they decided to add 4 more categories during the last minute.

Voting spanned from Dec. 22 to Dec. 29. The amazing categories for fans to vote included "Villain Most In Need Of A Hug," "'The Whoooaaaaaaa, dude!' Award," "I Thought This Game Was Cool Before It Won An Award," "Game Within A Game," and many more.

Kotaku rounded up the full list as you can see below of the categories and its corresponding winners.

“Portal 2,” the first-person puzzle-platform video game published by Valve, won the “Villain Most In Need Of A Hug,” while “Euro Truck Simulator 2” took home “I Thought This Game Was Cool Before It Won An Award” and “Sit Back And Relax” which a vehicle simulation game developed and published by SCS Software.

Rockstar Games’ open world action-adventure video game “Grand Theft Auto V” bagged two awards during the first-ever Steam Awards: "Whoooaaaaaaa, dude!" and “Game Within A Game” awards. Telltale's “The Walking Dead” won the mouthful award “I'm Not Crying, There's Something In My Eye.”

“The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim” from game developer Bethesda Game Studios beat “Team Fortress 2” in the “Test Of Time” category. Meanwhile, “Dark Souls III” out won “Dota 2” in the “Love/Hate” category. “Counter-Strike: Global Offensive” won “Just Five More Minutes” award, “Goat Simulator” took home “Best Use Of A Farm Animal” award, “Left 4 Dead 2” won the “Better With Friends” award, and “Doom” bagged player-contributed category “Boom Boom.”

The annual Steam Winter Sale gave birth to the Steam Awards will conclude on Jan. 2, 2017. The games that took home amazing awards are still heavily discounted.
