First Dedicated Gaming Vibrator For 'Rez' The First Version Of 'Rez Infinite' Celebrates 15th Anniversary

A unique gaming peripheral the Trance Vibrator was released on Jan.7, 2002 packaged with a rail shooter music video game "Rez." The USB powered device is for the purpose of pulsing in time with the gameplay's trance music.

It is a unique kind of gaming peripheral for PlayStation 2 and it can be worn wherever the user wants. Users could even sit on its top while they are playing a game since it also comes with a protective pouch. It buzzes when the player is on his way to victory. According to The Sun, the device received a lot of feedback but for many years, no one has ever made a vibration accessory dedicated for console players.

Of course, there are controllers having vibration capabilities that were released before 2002 such as the Dualshock and the Rumble Pak. However, these are not considered as dedicated vibration devices unlike the Trance Vibrator that serves no other function than what its name implies according to Kotaku.

Tetsuya Mizuguchi "Rez" creator was asked if players can still have the same device that could be placed anywhere on the body on his next game "Child of Eden." He said that at least players have experienced using the device for many recreational purposes.

Although the gaming device received a lot of negative feedback at the time, it is quite forgotten due to the excellence of the game. The raging beats and the trippy visuals of "Rez" made it stay on the memories of people. Evan Narcisse even described the game as a near perfect video game.

"Rez" is initially released on PS2 and Dreamcast. It eventually reached Xbox 360, PS3 and even PS4. An HD version of the game is eventually spawned. Last year, the ultimate version of "Rez" that is fully evolved and remastered with additional contents and VR support was released called "Rez Infinite."
