‘Overwatch’ Voice Lines Suggests A Valentine's Day Seasonal Event Is Coming

The snow has melted and a brand new year is upon us. This means that "Overwatch" Winter Wonderland event has ended. However, it seems Blizzard is gearing up for another upcoming event to the famous team-based first-person shooter game.

A Reddit user by the name of akhanubis recently data-mined the "Overwatch" PTR's most recent update. The user was able to dig up voice lines, indicating the Blizzard might be planning a Valentine's event for the game. It logical since Valentine's Day is the nearest upcoming event for this year.

A Public Test Realm is where PC players get to try out patches released by Blizzard Entertainment before they are officially incorporated into the game. And this is a goldmine for industrious fans.

According to the Reddit user akhanubis as reported by GameSpot, the latest PTR updates contained a number of voice lines, which might be used in the future. But 2 stood out among the voice lines. The others were not confirmed as new ones but several of them might be.

The conversation between Mercy and Genji suggested that there might be a Valentine's Day event. But a third voice line between Genji and Hanzo was also part of the discovery from the latest PTR.

The first one, you can hear Genji asking Hanzo, his brother, if he has any chocolates. Well, Hanzo doesn't have any. In the second voice line, the Swiss healer Mercy informs the Cyborg ninja Genji that she has special chocolates just for him. Genji then tells her that perhaps, she could share the Swiss chocolates with him.

Note that in the voice lines, Genji calls Mercy by her real name, Angela. In the third voice line, Genji in turn give chocolates to Mercy. However, they are not Swiss, to which Mercy simply responded, "They will have to do (sigh). Thank you, Genji."

Seasonal events like this are not something new to "Overwatch." So far, there have been 3 season events on the game that began last August with the Olympics. This was followed by a Halloween event in October, and finally, the recently concluded Christmas event.

However, Jeff Kaplan, "Overwatch" game director, noted back in December that Blizzard is not planning on celebrating Valentine's Day. But there are more content to be released soon.

Regardless, according to Polygon, the budding romance between Mercy and Genji is still big news for "Overwatch" fans who have been wanting to pair up the two. Images of Genji writing to Angela a letter and Angela reading it can be seen in the holiday comic "Reflections."

Blizzard has not offered any official events or contents to be released. We will have to see whether there will a Valentine's Day event or not. Check out the video to hear the voice lines below.
