'Wonder Woman' Release Date & Trailer: Plot Covers Two Times, WWI & Present Day [Rumors]

Gal Gadot's "Wonder Woman" solo movie scheduled for release in 2017 is rumored to cover two time periods: World War I, and the present day.

Screen Rant reports that as the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) kicks off in 2016, several new characters will be introduced to the franchise through upcoming movies, such as Zack Snyder's "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" and David Ayer's "Suicide Squad."

One of the characters to be introduced is Wonder Woman, who will be played by Gal Gadot. She is reportedly going to have her first appearance in the Batman V Superman movie, before she would get to have her own solo movie which is slated to release in 2017.

So far, not much is known about the standalone film, except that it will be directed by Patty Jenkins, screenwritten by Jason Fuchs, and co-starred by Chris Pine (who will play as Steve Trevor). As such, fans can do nothing now but to expect details to be disclosed as production starts around November this year.

However, a rumor has come out regarding the time period wherein the movie's plot might revolve.

Heroic Hollywood reports of a rumor that the Wonder Woman movie will take two places in time: the first half is rumored to take place during the World War I, while the second half will take place in modern times.

The entertainment news outlet further reports that this latest rumor regarding the Amazonian's standalone movie awaits confirmation, due to the intense secrecy that the DCEU films have surrounding them at the moment. However, with Wonder Woman being rumored to be around 200 years old at the time period of Batman V Superman events, the rumor of her movie being set during the WWI just might be true.

Screen Rant reports that Warner Bros. or DC showed an artwork at the San Diego Comic-Con 2015, which featured Gadot's Diana fighting alongside soldiers in what looked like either WWI or WWII. Also, they add that it might be possible that most of the movie will be set in modern times, with flashbacks of historical scenes.

The site further reports that the standalone movie will explore the origins of Wonder Woman, via a script from Fuchs, who also explored the origins of Peter Pan in the upcoming Pan movie.

Yahoo Italy reports that the movie will be partly filmed in Basilicata, Italy—a place known for ancient architecture, which might be a setting for Diana's home, Themyscira.

Wonder Woman will be released in theaters on June 23, 2017.
