'Suicide Squad' Trailer & Cast: Will Smith Says Jared Leto's Joker Is Going To Be Awesome

With the highly anticipated film, "Suicide Squad," nearing its release, teasers and information about the characters have been roaming around the internet to excite fans. One of the most iconic supervillain, The Joker (played by Jared Leto), is also present in "The Suicide Squad," and the public is curious how Leto's version of the famed madman differs from the others.

Business Insider has leard that Leto's approach in internalizing The Joker's character was "a bit more intense." But the news outlet said that this was no shock at all. Jai Courteney (who plays Captain Boomerang) said that Leto has been consistent in maintaining The Joker's persona, on or off screen. The "Dallas Buyers Club" star previously sent the actress Margot Robbie (who plays Harley Quinn), a love letter and a rat while Will Smith (who plays Deadshot) received some bullets.

Cinema Blend reports that in "Suicide Squad," fans could witness how The Joker, who will reportedly play a role akin to famous murderer Hannibal Lecter, turned Harleen Quinzel to Harley Quinn. The news outlet further said that "Suicide Squad" will most likely provide a closer and deeper look into the clowned villain's mind.

In a recent guesting on Apple's Beats 1 radio, Smith talked about the film, including Leto's character. He said, "I’ve never actually met Jared Leto. We worked together for 6 months and we’ve never exchanged a word outside of ‘Action!’ and ‘Cut!’ We’ve never said ‘Hello’ or ‘Good day.’"

"I’ve only ever spoken to him with me as Deadshot and him as The Joker. I literally have not met him yet. So, the first time I see him will be ‘Hey, Jared. What’s up?’ Not a single word exchanged off-camera. He was all in on the Joker," Smith added.

A report from Heroic Hollywood also said that during a Q&A in Dubai for Leto's band, 30 Seconds To Mars, a Batman fan asked Leto about his performance. The Oscar-winning actor called the fan "very brave" and the laughed in a "maniacal" manner.

Regarding the fan's question, Leto said, “I can’t wait for you to see this – they’re going to lock me away in a box after this movie comes out.”

However, Business Insider notes that The Joker will not play a major part in "Suicide Squad," saying that Leto's character will reportedly soend his time "behind bars." The Suicide Squad include Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg), Adewale Akinnyoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Adam Beach (Slipknot), Jay Hernandez (El Diablo) and Karen Fukuhara (Katana).

"Suicide Squad" is helmed by David Ayer and is slated to be released ton Aug. 5, 2016.
