Jaden Smith Wants Freedom from his Parents

Will Smith recently revealed in an interview to The Sun that Smith Jr, Jaden, would like the 'gift of emancipation' from his parents on his 15th birthday in July. He wants to move into his own place.

"He says, 'Dad, I want to be emancipated.' I know if we do this, he can be an emancipated minor, because he really wants to have his own place, like ooh. That's the backlash. On the other side, if kids just want to have command of their lives, I understand," said Will.

It is not unknown that actor Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith let their children have control over their lives and decide on crucial matters on their own.  Neither Will nor Jada believe in punishing their teenage kids and let them do what they want.

Jada and Will are known for using the 'coolest' parenting techniques that do not involve punishing. They said they preferred talking to children rather than telling them they were wrong. Will said, "From the time Jaden was five or six we would sit him down, and all he has to do is be able to explain why what he did was the right thing for his life. I think it's a much more difficult question to ask someone - 'Why was that right?' - than to try to show them why it was wrong." Will explained this by saying that they do not tell Jaden or Willow to even clean their rooms or get ready for schools. Instead their parents expect them to decide that these are the right things to do.

For Jaden the technique "works pretty well." However, we just have to see how much more gifts such as "emancipation" Jaden asks for the rest of his birthdays.

The father-son pair will be seen in their latest sci-fi movie "After Earth," which will be releasing on May 13 across the U.S.

Jaden has had quite a successful career till date. He has acted in "The Pursuit of Happyness," "The karate kid" and "The Day The Earth Stood Still." He has collaborated with Justin Bieber and even released his own mixed album, "The Cool Café"

Jaden will have to apply legally to become emancipated from his parents.
