Three Options Given In New U.S. Dietary Guidelines: American, Mediterranean And Vegetarian Diets Recommended

The new United States dietary guidelines have been released and people are excited because it provides three different options for those who are dieting. According to CNN, these are the American, Mediterranean, and Vegetarian diets.

For those who want to enjoy American food, but want to cut down on the calories, the first option is their best choice. This diet presents you with healthier alternatives to your favorite foods that are not just lower on the calorie scale but also have more benefits. The best part is that this diet is spread out across a wide array of food groups, which means you do not have to give up foods such as meat and dairy. You will only have to consume them in moderation.

Up next is the Mediterranean diet. This diet has been linked with longevity and healthy brains. Mediterranean diets lessen the chance of getting a stroke and help people get fit at any age, says another report by CNN. This diet entails consuming more protein and fruit compared to the American diet. The amount of grains and vegetable to be consumed between the two diets is roughly the same.

The vegetarian diet will see you eating only 3 and a half ounce of protein each day, which is the recommended minimum. In place of meats, this diet recommends the consumption of foods such as nuts, seeds, and soy products.

You do not have to sacrifice eating good food for eating healthy. "There is a variety of healthy dietary patterns to follow, whatever tickles your fancy and your palate," Joan Salge Blake says, a registered dietician. Dietary guidelines are focusing more on the complete package and less on the individual foods themselves. "these guidelines are really focusing on the totality of the diet. Super foods are out and super diet is in," Blake adds.
