Woman Identified Herself As "The Woman CDC Is Worried About"

There's no amount of alcohol that's safe for pregnant women. This is what the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) explained in a warning against women who may be pregnant but still drinks alcohol.

Maggie Fox was surprised she was not feeling sick or even tipsy after downing glasses of champagne. She is not the type who drinks a lot, no matter how much she wants to, because she easily gets sick or will spend all day in bed the next day.

Being invited to a wedding was something she had looked forward to. Not only because it was her close friend's wedding, but because she was also able to consume surprising amount of alcohol without getting any of the usual turn outs. She even laughed at the bride for not drinking when she told Maggie she's trying to get pregnant that's why she was avoiding alcohol in any amount.

Today reported that Fox has heard of the CDC warning women who drink alcohol when they suspect they might be pregnant. The CDC has issued a statement stating that when it comes to pregnant women, no amount of alcohol (wine or beer) is ever safe at any stage of the pregnancy. The same caution was issued by the American Association of Pediatrics saying that if alcohol is not avoided; it could lead to Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD).

According to MedlinePlus, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum disorder is a group of diseases that can happen to a newborn whose mothers drank alcohol during pregnancy. The most serious one is known as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Those affected with FAS has low birth weight, facial abnormalities (including small eye opening and flat cheekbones), developmental delay, and neurological abnormalities, Kidshealth.org reports.

These were the first thing Maggie thought of when she found out she was pregnant a few days after she had that alcohol binge in her friend's wedding. During the course of her pregnancy she was very cautious and would always feel very nervous every time she has an ultrasound schedule. But when her daughter was born, she was perfect. "Absolutely perfect" according to Maggie.

That experienced encouraged her to find out if mother's have a protective mechanism to strain alcohol out of the mother's system. Then she found a theory explaining how morning sickness happens to apparently filter harmful toxins. However, not all women have the capability to do that.
