A 9-Year-Old Girl Drives Pick-Up Truck To Take Drunk Parents And Little Baby Home, Police Says

Parents need to give their kids certain duties and responsibilities so that they will learn to be more independent and reliable. However, parents getting drunk and making their little kid drive them home is not only excessive but dangerous and irresponsible as well.

WGN TV reports that a couple from Wisconsin -- 36-year-old Jason Roth and 32-year-old Amanda Eggert -- got drunk and had their 9-year-old daughter drive their pick-up truck to take them home.  The couple is currently facing criminal charges of recklessly endangering safety and neglecting a child in Polk County Circuit Court.

The arrest was made after authorities were alerted by a 911 call about a pick-up truck that was moving erratically on the road. Deputy Jeff Hahn responded to the call and was shocked to see a little girl driving the pick-up truck along the Apple River with the highly intoxicated parents and their infant baby as her passengers.

According to PARENTING, Roth and Eggert's blood alcohol levels on the scene were found to be twice the legal limit in the State. Eggert even tried to physically assault the paramedics who were trying to treat a cut on her wound caused by an earlier snowmobiling accident, according to Reuters. "Eggert is also charged with battery to an EMT and a firefighter, as well as disorderly conduct," WGN TV reports.

Parents need to understand that alcoholism negatively affects the lives of their children. "Many children of alcoholics, often referred to as 'COAs,' live in homes filled with stress, financial hardship, instability, neglect and violence," Rehabs explains.

The article also states that many children exposed to alcoholism from their parents have feelings of anger, embarrassment, insecurities and shame as well as problems with their academics, behavior and emotions. Mental conditions such as anxiety, depression, OCD and PTSD are also possible to develop in children of alcoholics.
