Giant Continental Rabbit Needs A New Home

The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) seeks a home for a massive seven-month-old continental rabbit which is the size of a dog. The charity said that the bunny can still grow.

The giant bunny named Atlas was passed on to the Scottish SPCA after its owners found its size too much of a handful, The Guardian reported. The rabbit, which is already the size of the west highland terrier, needs a spacious hutch as it can grow up to 1.2 meters.

"[Atlas] is still young with some growing to do," Anna O'Donnell said, manager of the Scottish SPCA. She added that the rabbit is very friendly and loves getting attention and cuddles. "Atlas is also an inquisitive boy who makes everyone laugh with his mischievous character."

"We are looking for a specific home for Atlas due to his breed and size. A standard rabbit hutch won't do so his new owner will need plenty of space for him," O'Donnell stated. "Atlas needs an owner with the knowledge to properly care for him, so ideally someone who has kept a continental giant before."

Glamour model Katie Price is interested in providing a new home for Atlas, the Mirror reported. Price is known for her fondness for animals.

Through her Twitter account, the model said that she is willing to re-house the giant rabbit if it still needs a home. Price already owns a number of pets including dogs, horses, goats and pigs.

The biggest rabbit in the world is Darius, a continental giant from Worcestershire, according to an article by the Daily Mail. It weighs 22 kilograms and can consume up to 4,000 carrots a year.

According to Pets4Homes, a pet classifieds website, continental bunnies are among of the largest and oldest breeds of rabbit. They can grow to be huge and will make fantastic pets because of its gentle and inquisitive personality.
