Poor Sex Life May Be Caused By Reality TV, Wearing High Heels Or An Impaired Smell

Numerous surprising things that happen every day may cause a person's poor sex life. Reasons such as watching reality TV, wearing high heels or a bunged-up nose may interfere with a person's sexual performance.

"The bed should be used for sex and sleeping only" has been said too many times. Distraction cannot only cause insomnia but it can also hinder a person's sex life, according to Fox News.

In a 2006 study on 523 Italian couples that have a TV in their bedroom have sex half as often as couples that do not. The study also found that certain programs such as reality TV shows and violent films could bring poor sex life.

Films that bring about depressing or irritable emotions are most likely to affect one's libido. Watching TV also forces couples to sit side by side which impairs communication with each other.

"At a minimum, make the bedroom a no-technology zone," said Anita H. Clayton professor of psychiatry at the University of Virginia. It will be hard to initiate sex with a partner if he or she is hiding behind a laptop.

Many women also find themselves unwilling to have sex if they are overweight or they find themselves unattractive. Women who had a change in shape due to pregnancy are particularly susceptible to the decrease in libido.

But aside from the emotional consequence, fat can raise oestrogen levels, which reduce the effect of testosterone in men and women. This is especially true when there is fat around the middle portion of your body because this can lead to a reduction in a sex-hormone binding protein called globulin.

In addition, since smell plays an important role in our recognition of scents given off by a partner through sweat, a person's sense of smell can lead to a disadvantage in the mating game. A study by the University of Gothenburg in Sweden suggested that men and women with no sense of smell had fewer sexual partners and felt less secure in their relationships.

Simply having a cold can affect sex, according to Dr. David Edwards, an Oxfordshire GP and sexual health specialist. In some cases, viral infections can temporarily decrease testosterone levels, reported Daily Mail.

Surprisingly, slipping on a pair of heels and having a desk job may also lead to a poor sex life. Heeled shoes tip the body forwards, which force pelvic floor muscles to become tight and restrict the passage of nerve impulses to the reproductive organs.

Similarly, pelvic floor muscles remain contracted when sitting for long periods of time, which may lead to the same outcome of a poor sex life. The body is designed to be moving constantly which means the most active people are, the more effective blood supply and nerve signaling will work.
