New Parents Survival Guide: A Few Things To Know About Newborns

Congratulations! After nine months of waiting, you're finally holding your baby and looking at his wandering eyes. But as you are enjoying every moment, you might have many questions that concern your bundle of joy.

So, before you call a pediatrician, read first to know some weird but totally normal things about newborn babies.

They are funny looking.

Your baby might be color purple and had a flat head or cone shape head. But no need to worry because according to pediatrician Gwenn O'Keeffe, newborn babies "basically look like aliens."

O'Keeffe said newborn's head are very soft, so it's no wonder the shape of his head got affected during the birth process itself. However, c-section babies have round heads.

In addition, you might be surprised with your baby's wrinkled skin and all the skin peeling. And your baby might be born with fine hair from his certain parts such as ears and shoulders. Nevertheless, O'Keeffe said parents should not fret about it because babies will soon gain some ounces and will eventually lose the newborn look.

Their poop can be explosive.

It's another normal part of newborn babies. Dr. Alanna Levine, parenting expert and pediatrician at Orangetown Pediatric Associates in New York said parents shouldn't worry about it as long as the color of the poop is normal -- ranging from brown, green to yellow. But if you notice there are some signs of blood, then it's time to consult a pediatrician.

There is a constant sneezing.

Your baby might be adjusting to the world that's why he is constantly sneezing. Remember, he is just getting used to the environment. So, if he is sneezing but not actually sick, then don't fuss. There just might be little foreign particles that have made their way into his nasal passages and your baby is just trying to banish it. However, if your baby sneezes and wheezes then better take him to a pediatrician.

Taking care of newborn babies can sometimes be confusing and frustrating, especially for the first time parents. But don't worry, you will put all of it behind soon and will just enjoy every second with your little one.
