Nursing Mom Tips: Foods That Should Be Avoided For Breastfeeding Mothers

A lot of nursing moms definitely don't know that there are certain foods they should avoid while they are breastfeeding. Hence, here are all the foods that should be avoided by breastfeeding mothers as these can cause discomfort to babies, intestinal irritation and some can even decrease mother's milk supply.

Coffee and chocolate

Once you drink coffee, soda or eat chocolate, some of its caffeine will end up in your breast milk, which can cause irritation to your baby and sleeplessness. So, if you think the said products are the culprit to your baby's crankiness, better cut your consumption.

Alcohol

According to Australian Breastfeeding Association, once a nursing mom drinks alcoholic beverages, alcohol will stay in her breastmilk around 30-60 minutes after she starts drinking. And apparently, pumping and dumping will not reduce the amount of alcohol in your milk. Thus, it is much better to avoid alcohol when you are still breastfeeding.

Peanuts, eggs, soy and wheat

When your family has food allergies history, then better eliminate these type of foods. Many children who have dairy intolerance are usually allergic to soy. Hence, babies who are allergic to wheat shows different symptoms like bloody stools and inconsolable crying. So, if you suspect your child has food allergy better proceed with caution and omit these foods from your diet.

Shellfish

According to babble, experts have found out that if one of the parents is allergic to shellfish, there is a greater risk that the infant is likely allergic to the particular food too. So, better remove this from your diet.

Peppermint and parsley

These two types of foods can reduce milk supply. Several cups a day of peppermint or consuming parsley in large quantities is more than enough to halt your milk production.

Nevertheless, always talk to your doctor before you omit any food from your diet as it may cause nutritional imbalance for you and your baby.
