Say Goodbye To Alterations: Tommy Hilfiger Launched Its Adaptive Clothing Line Meant For Kids With Disabilities

Many moms of kids with disabilities pay big bucks to have their kids' clothes altered so as to fit their children. Now, with the new adaptive clothing line from Tommy Hilfiger, in collaboration with Runway of Dreams, kids with disabilities can have their Tommy shirts and jeans right off the shelf. No more alterations needed, ever!

Tommy Hilfiger has recently launched its adaptive clothing on its website, which are priced the same as that of regular Tommy clothes. The 22-piece collection includes all the bells and whistles that will allow kids with disabilities to easily wear them -- giving them a sense of independence and boosting their self-esteem in the process.

According to Disability Scoop, some of the alterations included replacing regular buttons and zippers with MagnaReady closures. Boys can choose between sizes four to 20 while girls' clothes range from sizes four to 18. There is generally no difference between the Tommy Hilfiger Kids collection. Hence, with this clothing line, kids with disabilities wear exactly the same clothes that are found in the regular collection.

The concept for these adaptive clothes for girls and boys started with the dream of Mindy Scheier, a mom of a boy with muscular dystrophy. Entrepreneur reported that every single day, Mindy would watch her son struggle to get dressed, which would prompt her to make alterations on her son's clothes.

According to Mindy, "After the lengths it took to put my son in jeans for one day, I knew that there needed to be a change in the industry." She started to talk with people from various parts of the world regarding their frustration for the lack of adaptive clothing for children. In the process, she found that it would be easier for children to get dressed by using modified closures and working on adjustability.

What stemmed from a mother's dream to create adaptive clothing for girls and boys suffering from disabilities soon became a reality when she created Runway of Dreams in 2013.  Now, in collaboration with a leading name in the clothing industry, Mindy finds her dream in the Tommy Hilfiger adaptive clothing line, made perfect for kids with disabilities.
