Community Service Company Will Grant Paid Period Leave for Women

A British company who champions women empowerment has announced that it will be giving women paid period leaves in consideration of a painful monthly cycle. Women employees in this company can therefore take the time off and get some rest whenever their monthly period arrives.

Coexist, a community interest company in Bristol, U.K., is said to be the first ever company in the country to give female staff a paid period leave. It has already drawn up the guidelines that the company will need to implement this period policy. The move of the company to allow women to enjoy a paid period leave is in line with their drive to increase workplace productivity and boost the morale of employees.

She Knows mentioned that the 40-year0old director, Bex Baxter, said: "I have managed many female members of staff over the years and I have seen women at work who are bent over double because of the pain caused by their periods."

Sympathizing with female employees, Baxter added, "Despite this, they feel they cannot go home because they do not class themselves as unwell. And this is unfair." She went on further saying, "At Coexist we are very understanding. If someone is in pain - no matter what kind - they are encouraged to go home."

While a paid period leave for women is considered as superbly brilliant, there is also a necessity to take a step back and think about the implications of this type of leave. A New York Post article implied that there may be a risk for women to fall behind their work because of this paid period leave. In addition, they might also be denied promotions and raises considering that they would be absent for about one-quarter every month.

Although there would always be views from opposing sides of the fence, for sure, women working at Coexist welcome this pro-women policy that the company would be having. A paid period leave is a good way to battle the pain and discomfort women experience during their monthly cycle.
