A newborn passed away after his mom was "turned away" from a maternity ward due to lacking bed space. Now, the mom wants nothing but justice for her baby.
Sarah Ellis, 28 years old, went into labor on November 7, 2014. So, she went to Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax, but was turned away because there was no bed available and was instructed to go to another maternity hospital instead.
Hence, the mom went to Huddersfield Birthing Centre. But the mom was also sent home by the staff after being told she was not in the advance stage of labor. However, later that day, the mom could no longer feel her child moving, so she returned to Calderdale Royal Hospital.
The mom delivered Gino Asquith via c-section at Calderdale Royal Hospital on November 9. But the child had to be resuscitated twice. Then, the child was placed on life support.
Three days later, the mom and her partner, Adam Asquith, were both advised to let Gino go in peace after doctors at Calderdale Royal Hospital determined that the child suffered from brain damage caused by lack of oxygen, according to Batley News. The newborn died on November 12.
Now both parents are taking the matter in court. They want to know what exactly happened and what really causes Gino's death. "Sarah and Adam have had an extremely distressing time since Gino's death," Emily Whisker of Irwin Mitchell, who is representing the family said to Mail Online. "They want to know exactly what happened during Gino's delivery and why he was in such a poor condition."
Furthermore, both parents have a number of concerns, including the care provided at the Calderdale Royal Hospital and at the Huddersfield Birthing Centre. "They hope that the inquest will provide them with an opportunity to learn more about the events leading up to Gino's death and whether any lessons can be learned from the tragedy," Whisker added.
