7 Warning Signs Of Ovarian Cancer

The deadliest form of all female reproductive cancers is known to not show any symptoms for a long time. Here are seven warning signs of ovarian cancer to help with early diagnoses and treatment.

According to the American Cancer Society, an estimated 21,000 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer in a year. Unfortunately, only 20 percent of cases of ovarian cancer are diagnosed leading to failed early treatment, according to Fox News.

1.     Abdominal swelling or bloating

Persistent abdominal bloating is one of most known warning signs of ovarian cancer. Some ovarian cancer patients have reported bloated stomachs that look so big that people have mistaken them for being pregnant.

2.     Pelvic/abdominal/lower back pain

The very first sign of an underlying medical problem will always be a pain. Any discomfort or pain in the pelvic, abdominal or lower back can be an important message that may concern something serious, Natural News reported.

3.     Painful intercourse

Pain during intercourse can be a strong indicator of an early stage of ovarian cancer. While discomfort during sex may be the reason for an infection or hormonal imbalance, the pain should be treated right away.

4.     Diarrhea and constipation

Ovarian cancer may lead to the blockage of intestines, which can eventually lead to diarrhea, constipation and other digestive problems. Similarly, the abdominal region and the digestive track are the regions most affected by ovarian cancer, especially in the early stages. In many cases, diarrhea and constipation may also be combined with nausea and vomiting.

5.     Changes in urination

The frequent need to urinate can be a sign of weak pelvic floor muscles, a urinary tract infection or an early warning sign of ovarian cancer. This symptom can be a cause for concern, especially when the desire to pee becomes much more urgent.

6.     Changes in menstruation

Studies show that more women over the age or 55 are diagnosed with ovarian cancer. However, women do not need to be post-menopausal to develop the fifth most common cancer in women. Any drastic changes in the menstrual cycle or any abnormal vaginal bleeding can be both causes for concern.

7.     Excessive fatigue

Excessive fatigue no matter how much sleep one gets should be taken as a warning sign. In addition, nausea, an increase or loss of appetite and breathlessness may also signal a warning sign of ovarian cancer.
