‘Freak Accident' Paralyzes Cross Fit Athlete

A cross fit athlete was paralyzed due to a 'freak accident' that took place at a fitness competition in South California, according to Guardian LV.

Kevin Ogar, a Colorado cross fit athlete and coach was attempting a routine powerlift, also known as a 'snatch' during the fitness competition when he had an accident. He successfully lifted the heavy barbell to his waist and then up over his head, but then he let the bar go, allowing it to hit the floor behind him. The barbell bounced against some of the other weights that were lying on the floor and came back up striking Ogar in the back, severing his spine. There were no doctors or medical staff on site at the competition during that time.

As of late, reports have confirmed that Ogar is still unable to move below his waist and is facing a number of surgeries as he attempts to rehabilitate himself from his injuries. He has already undergone two surgeries to place rods and screws in his spine. Prior to his accident, Ogar has been attempting to fulfill his dream of reaching the CrossFit Games, a national cross fit competition that is broadcast nationwide every year. Whoever wins the competition will receive national sponsorship offers in additional to monetary prizes.

Other than working as a CrossFit athleate and coach, he is also working as a part-time employee at Whole Foods. However, neither of his jobs provide him with insurance coverage so the cross fit community is currently rallying up to provide him with financial support. KevinOgar.com has already been set up for all those who want to donate to help him with his recovery.
