PlayStation 4.5, 'Neo' News & Updates: Sony's New Console To Be More Powerful Than PlayStation 4, More Specs Revealed

Gaming console aficionados can expect great things from Sony's upcoming PlayStation 4.5. If recent rumors are to be believed, the next-gen console promises to be considerably better than its predecessor. How much better you ask? Here are some key details to keep you up to speed.

PlayStation 4.5 Beefed Up Version Of PlayStation 4

Straight out the box, the PlayStation 4.5 will be operating at far faster speeds than the PlayStation 4. Giant Bomb pointed out that Sony's upcoming console will sport an 8-Jaguar-Core CPU clocked at 2.1 GHz.

That's in addition to an AMD GCN GPU clocked at 911 MHz. The original PlayStation 4 features the same CPU-GPU combo, but working at much slower speeds, with 1.6 GHz and 800 MHz, respectively.

Support For 4K-Resolution Gaming

According to Tech News Today, PlayStation 4.5 is designed to better accommodate 4K-resolution gamers. The console has Polaris support for HDR, HDCP 2.2, HDMI 2 and of course 4K.

Tech Radar noted that Sony will not require 4K-resolution gaming to be natively supported by video game developers. When games are played at 1920 x 1080 resolution, the PlayStation 4.5 directs the unused processing power to other graphical or performance areas instead.

A bigger concern for Sony is frame rate. Considering the technological advancements of 4K-resolution gaming, Sony will be requiring PlayStation 4.5 games to have equal or higher frame rates than PlayStation 4 games. This is to ensure that games won't sacrifice visual fluidity for crispier resolution.

New 'Neo' Game Mode

Parent Herald previously reported that Sony has mandated video game developers to create two game modes for PlayStation 4.5. One of which is the game's regular base mode, while the other is a new "Neo" mode. "Neo" mode introduces the game to all of PlayStation 4.5's performance upgrades, graphical enhancements and faster frame rates.

Old titles can soon be rendered in "Neo" mode via patches and software updates from video game developers. Games scheduled to release in late September are required to come with a day-one patch so it can be played on "Neo" mode right off the bat.

Rumor has it, the PlayStation 4.5 will release later this fall. Sony's new console will reportedly cost $400.
