Security & Password Protection: Human Skull Sound Is New Password Technology Thanks To SkullConduct

Password security has reached new heights in technology development. Scientists and security experts collaborated to develop new protective technology that allows the sound of the human skull to be used as a password.

This security technology is meant to work with eyewear computers or smartglasses such as Google Glass, Sony SmartEyeGlass and Vuzix Smartglasses. RT reported that researchers from the University of Stuttgart, the University of Saarland, and the Max Planck Institute for Informatics in Germany joined efforts to strengthen security for eyewear computer and smartglasses users.

The security system is called SkullConduct and uses features that already exist in eyewear computers and smartglasses. The SkullConduct uses the bone conduction speaker and microphone system of these eyewear computers.

Once the biometric system of the technology sets to work, SkullConduct analyzes the resulting frequency from the sound that goes through the wearer's skull. SkullConduct records the unique frequency of the response that an individual skull returns when the biometric system sends a sound through the skull.

SkullConduct simply repeats this check as identification whenever the individual uses his eyewear computer or smartglasses. Essentially the skull vibration or skull echo serves as the unique identifier for smartglass users.

Naked Security noted that SkullConduct was successfully tested for accuracy on a small number of test users within controlled environments. Environmental noise, weight gain and hair growth are among the factors that may lower the security performance of SkullConduct.
