'The Good Wife' Series Finale Ending: Will Appears In Daydreams; Alicia Comes Full Circle

"The Good Wife" series finale aired its last episode, Sunday, May 8 on CBS and the long-awaited return of Will Gardner also happened, but he was all part of Alicia's thoughts. Did Alicia get to pick between Jason and Peter? How did "The Good Wife" end exactly?

'The Good Wife' Series Finale: Who Did Alicia Choose?

Luca (Cush Jumbo) asks Alicia (Julianna Margulies) to think hard about who she wants to see whenever she comes home and she imagines different scenarios. The first one had Jason (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), her current lover, and the next one had Peter (Chris Noth), her husband and the father of her kids. But she surprised herself when she thought of Will (Josh Gardner) for the third scenario. The latter's character was killed off in the series in Season 5.

Alicia's thoughts wandered off to Will because she also had been looking up an old case that could help with Peter's litigation. Her discussions with Will in her head provided a fitting closure that fans of "The Good Wife" may have hoped to happen, but the rest of the episode was not yet done at this point.

'The Good Wife' Series Finale: All-Female Team Breaks Down

Back in real life, the evidence suggests Peter is guilty of tampering and corruption. Ballistics showed that he had something to hide and Alicia, Diane (Christine Baranski) and Luca cannot use this in court or they will lose. They also cannot discredit an expert witness on the stand, since she is Dianne's husband.

However, Alicia reminds Diane that their client is Peter. This resulted in a shouting match between Alicia and Diane. The latter gets blindsided in court, per TV Line. Diane walks out in the middle of the court proceedings and later, she slaps Alicia hard leaving her cheeks red. Guess, that means there will be no all-female firm then.

'The Good Wife' Series Finale: Where To Now For Alicia?

Peter learns that Eli (Alan Cumming) has been talking to his donors about the possibility of transferring their interests and support for Alicia once the Florricks are divorced. Eli defends it's a smart move for Peter, should he land in prison. The donor's money shouldn't go to someone else and Alicia will not be tainted by Peter's scandals after the divorce. Peter still maintains to his wife that he's not guilty. Connor (Matthew Morrison) tells Alicia her husband is not going to change and that they should take the plea.

Peter agrees and asks his wife to stand by his side when he makes the public announcement. Alicia makes one last ditch to "talk" to Will in her thoughts. Her daydream of him convinces her to give in to her husband's request one last time, and then go to Jason. She tells Will that she love will him forever, per The Hollywood Reporter.

In the end, Alicia did stand by Peter when he told the public he is resigning from his post as governor for corruption allegations. But unlike the scenario from the first season, where Alicia appeared dazed and hurt, this time, she's detached from Peter. She sees Jason in the shadows, and upon Will's advice, goes to him. But that's where the episode closes for "The Good Wife" season finale, after the slap from Diane. Alicia finds her bearing and proceeds to find Jason.

How did you see the ending? Do you think Alicia eventually caught up with Jason? Do you believe she'll make amends with Diane? Did the series finale satisfy you? Sound off in the comments!
