'Voltron' Reboot Teaser, Air Date & News: Netflix Drops New Trailer For 'Legendary Defender' Featuring Steven Yeun; When Will Series Air?

Netflix has unveiled the first teaser to "Voltron: Legendary Defender." The reboot featuring five mechanical lions that form a robot was a popular 1980s cartoon series and the streaming site, along with DreamWorks Animation, is gearing for its return. When will the cartoons air?

Netflix is launching "Voltron: Legendary Defender" for streaming on June 10 with 13 episodes at 22-minute each, per TV Line. As it is in the original show, the animation will follow five teenagers who have been enlisted to fly robotic lions and fight an intergalactic war.

'Voltron' Reboot Retains Classic Feel With New Stories

DreamWorks has been given free rein to adapt and update the "Voltron" reboot for the streaming site's audience. However, the animators assure fans that the cartoons will retain some of the elements of the old series. "We're trying to keep as much of that classic feel to it as we can, because ultimately we have huge amounts of nostalgia for (the original) show," said executive producer Lauren Montgomery, via USA Today.

However, with new characters making up the "Voltron" reboot their backstories will figure heavily into the storytelling. "They're living on a version of Earth in the distant future that hasn't made contact with alien life forms, but they're going to the equivalent of space camp," said executive producer Joaquim Dos Santos, via Entertainment Weekly. 'Voltron: Legendary Defenders' Featuring Steven Yeun From 'The Walking Dead'

"Voltron: Legendary Defenders" has been voiced by "The Walking Dead's" Steven Yeun as Keith, Jeremy Shada as Lance, Tyler Labine as Hunk, Bex Taylor-Klaus as Pidge and Jon Keaton as Shiro. "We revisited something that I really loved in my childhood," said Steven Yeun in the video below.

He also shared that he's the pilot for the red lion. "I'm really excited for you guys to see how his journey unfolds." Watch Steven Yeun talk about the show:
