'Suicide Squad' News & Update: Jared Leto's Joker To Star In Spinoff Film, Will It Be Jason Todd/Joker Origin Story?

It looks like Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment have huge plans for "Suicide Squad." It has already been rumored that Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn will be getting her own spinoff film, but now there are plans of giving Jared Leto's Joker his very own solo movie! But will a "Suicide Squad" spinoff film starring Jared Leto be about how former Robin Jason Todd became the Joker?

Jared Leto's Joker Could Get His Own Solo Movie

According to We Got This Covered, an unnamed source has revealed that Warner Bros. is planning to work on a "Suicide Squad" spinoff film starring Jared Leto as the Joker. The source also stated that Jared Leto "seems up for it" and it isn't a surprise that fans are already looking forward to the Academy Award winner's return as the Clown Prince of Crime. But what could the Joker's spinoff film possibly be about?

Is The Joker Spinoff Film An Origin Story?

There is a possibility that Jared Leto's Joker spinoff film could follow the villain's origin story, taking some elements from the graphic novel "Batman: The Killing Joke." In the Alan Moore one-shot comics, the Joker starts out as a struggling comedian who turns to a life of crime as the Red Hood. "Batman: The Killing Joke" also shows how the Joker was thrown into a vat of chemicals and eventually became the Clown Prince of Crime.

As exciting as it may be to finally see "Batman: The Killing Joke" getting a live-action adaptation, the story is already getting an animated film featuring Mark Hamill as the voice of the Joker. So what are the other possibilities for the Joker spinoff film?

Jason Todd Is The Joker?

It has recently been confirmed that the Robin suit in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" belongs to the second Robin named Jason Todd (via FlickSided). There is a fan theory that Jared Leto's Joker in "Suicide Squad" is actually Jason Todd, who may have gone crazy after he was almost killed by the original Joker in the comic book "Batman #427." However, it all remains a mystery until "Suicide Squad" crashes into theaters on August 5.

Do you think a Joker spinoff film starring Jared Leto would be a great idea for DC? Let us know in the comments.
