Thousand of Participants in Australia Signed Up for the Latest HIV Drug Trial

Thousands of men took part in Australia's HIV drug trial. The fight to eradicate HIV may be a long way, but several volunteers including the Australian Health Minister, Jillian Skinner volunteered themselves.

ABC News mentioned that a new drug trial to eradicate HIV in New South Wales, Australia. An astonishing number of volunteers signed up for the drug trial as more than 1,100 men committed to participate. If proven effective the HIV drug that will be used for the trial will be considered as a head start in putting an end to HIV transmission.

Kirby Institute from the University of New South Wales will lead the trial. They will also be supported by ACON. Dr. Justin Koonin, ACON President is thrilled to take part of the study. He also commends the NSW Health Minister, Jillian Skinner for participating in the study according to Sydney Morning Herald.

"PrEP is widely acknowledged as a potential game changer in terms of preventing HIV transmission in NSW," Koonin told ABC. NSW is leading the way nationally, with 3,700 EPIC participants to be recruited into the trial. That means that 3,700 people most at risk of acquiring HIV will be protected. The NSW Government is really taking our approach to HIV prevention to the next level."

The battle on HIV has been an ongoing process as health care professionals are still in search for the cure. Aside from the study done in Australia, a team of researchers was featured in Parent Herald as they are focused on finding a way to eradicate HIV.

Though their search for the cure is still out of reach, researchers from PSDPL are taking things slow as they would want to produce effective quality results for effective HIV treatment. HIV affected millions of individuals yet there is no cure to for the disease up to this date.
