Gillian Anderson 'American Gods': Will 'Hannibal' Alum Convince Shadow Moon To Help The New Gods In Neil Gaiman Adaptation?

People have been following "American Gods" casting news after fans kept gushing about the cast of the Starz series. After the recent addition of "Hannibal" star Gillian Anderson, "American Gods" may have upped the ante by choosing a gifted actress to play a minor character from Neil Gaiman's book. Does this mean Media will have a larger role in Bryan Fuller's "American Gods" TV adaptation? And will Gillian Anderson manage to convince Shadow Moon to cooperate with the New Gods?

Gillian Anderson Joins "American Gods" As Media

Variety has reported that Gillian Anderson will reunite with "Hannibal" creator Bryan Fuller in "American Gods," where she will portray the omnipresent Media. The character is described as "the mouthpiece of the New Gods" and is one of the first deities that Shadow Moon encounters in Neil Gaiman's novel. Media only appears briefly in the book, but the Starz show might give the goddess of television a meatier role.

Will Gillian Anderson's Media Convince Shadow Moon To Help The New Gods?

In Neil Gaiman's novel "American Gods," Media is constantly trying to get Shadow Moon to side with the New Gods, who are younger deities that people are currently worshipping. If the goddess will be played by "X-Files" star Gillian Anderson, there is a huge possibility that the "American Gods" TV series will feature a more tenacious Media who will stop at nothing to bring Rick Whittle's Shadow to their team. Or perhaps "American Gods" have other plans for Gillian Anderson, as Neil Gaiman joked about in Twitter.

"American Gods" is being developed for Starz by Bryan Fuller and also stars Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday, Emily Browning as Laura Moon, Peter Stormare as Czernobog, Cloris Leachman as Zorya Vechernyaya, Chris Obi as Mr. Jacquel, Yetide Badaki as Bilquis and Jonathan Tucker as Low-Key Lyesmith. The New Gods include Bruce Langley as Technical Boy, Crispin Glover as Mr. World. The series is expected to air on Starz in early 2017.
